Emily Cooper, an American from Chicago goes to Paris to work for a French marketing firm when her boss cancels her own trip and sends Emily instead. It is centred around the struggles and the joys of being an American ex-pat in Paris. Emily's workplace, daily life, romantic struggles increase immensely when she's dropped into the firm all of a sudden, and it seems to increase the struggles of the ones around her as well. It's a light-hearted rom-com for anyone who wants to escape their own reality.

Personal Thoughts: Escaping from reality comes with its price and Emily In Paris reflects this in the most comedic/American way possible. If you've seen Sex and the City, you would know what I'm talking about. The creator of the show Darren Star also created Sex and the City, which is something that instantly wants to make you watch it as it indicates it will be a light-hearted show with a mostly relatable main character.

The critics have pointed out that there were a few inaccuracies in the way life in Paris was portrayed and maybe this bothers the Frech more than the other viewers as they are known to be realists, however, that might also be one of the things that were exaggerated in the show. The negative opinions usually centre around the fact that Emily isn't as charming as some might think since she doesn't know French and living in France, and perhaps isn't making the most effort to learn.

However, I personally don't think that's very important in terms of a romantic comedy. I am an ex-pat living in Budapest at the moment and I've lived in Rotterdam before. I've tried learning the local languages but it is proving to be more struggling than I thought. Emily didn't know beforehand that she would be spending the year in Paris, which explains why she doesn't know French. I don't think there's much point in being harsh on the character and the show in total. She continuously apologises to people for not being able to speak French, which is very realistic from an expat's point of view. Learning a language takes time, you have to invest all your hours into it to be good at it.

Despite being very clishé in general, it was made that way on purpose. It is (at times) mocking the clishés while letting people enjoy them. There is something we love to hate about clishés and Emily In Paris nails it. For me, it was a bit too much and the American attitude can get a bit too tiring to watch but still, I must've liked the show because I've finished it in one day.

The sense of humour wasn't always the best for me but most romantic comedies nail the romantic part more than the comedy part. Some things I enjoyed were Emily's outfits, the charming cast, and lastly, the fact that it was a mixture of American romantic comedies and at times French realism. The American part is definitely more noticeable but the complications in Emily's relationships felt a little too real to be considered a complete American romantic comedy.

Overall, I enjoyed watching Emily In Paris. It's s pretty fast watch especially if you don't have much to do because of the pandemic and all. The only things I didn't enjoy so much were Emily's reactions sometimes, like her being too over the top sometimes, and the clishés of cultures being too much sometimes. It doesn't show you anything you haven't seen on TV before, like how Sex and the City didn't show anything new, but it makes you watch. It's easy to relate to Emily especially if you're an ex-pat. She's just a girl who arrived in Paris with no friends and co-workers are giving her a hard time and I find that pretty relatable. In addition to that, we root for Emily when it comes to her love life. I really liked watching this show, and judging by the replies I got to my Instagram story which was a scene fro Emily In Paris, a lot of people did.

Enola Holmes

    'Enola' is 'alone' spelt backwards. It also is the name of Sherlock and Mycroft's little sister. The movie is about Enola's mother disappearing and her running away from home on a quest to find her mother which results in her bothers trying to find her. She wears disguises every step of the way in order to hide from her clever brothers and she meets Tewkesbury along the way. The movie takes a turn when Enola realises there are people trying to kill Tewkesbury, and decides to solve the mystery of this situation while also saving him.

    Personal Thoughts: I will start off by commenting on the negatives and then I'll come back to the positives. First of all, I liked the movie, it has a different tone than all the other Sherlock Holmes movies as Sherlock Holmes isn't the main character here. It had feminist undertones, which is nice. Although I have come across better ways of delivering this kind of message in movies like Little Women. For some reason, it felt like Enola was portrayed as an exception among girls, which in today's society corresponds to being 'not like other girls'. If you don't know what it is, it's basically a trend started on social media to demonstrate how someone lacks stereotypical feminine qualities to imply they're somehow "better" than the rest of the girls. She is essentially stripped off from most qualities women in those times had. All those qualities are portrayed as despicable and restricting acts throughout the movie. The only times we see Enola interacting with girls is when she goes to the 'lady school' where they teach girls to be lady-like and she immediately hates it. Now, I think it is okay to hate these sorts of things, it is quite a boring concept to have a school for teaching how to laugh and drink tea after all, but I just didn't like that that was the only interaction she had with girls. I liked that there were other female characters that supported the idea of portraying women as strong but I feel like women who don't do jiu-jitsu and constantly go undercover as boys also need recognition in movies. Another problem I had was with Millie Bobby Brown being Eleven in Stranger Things. I kept associating Enola with Eleven and essentially thought that her acting and the characters were a bit too similar as they were both the main characters who were powerful girls living in men's world and we were being reminded of that the whole time. I think her acting just doesn't really do it for me. That being said, she's only sixteen and is very successful and I really enjoyed watching her as Eleven, at least she had a tiny bit of positive interaction with another female character in that show towards the end.

    Sherlock was way hotter than any other Sherlock I've seen on TV, which I will get criticism for, however, I didn't like this Sherlock's personality. He just didn't have that awkward genius Sherlock-ness. I'm used to Sherlock referring to himself as a sociopath, not a caring family member. It was just too big of a difference for me to get used to if I'm being honest. He just disappeared into the background for me but that might just be the effect of him barely having any dialogue with anyone. In addition to that, Mycroft was a pretty annoying, two-dimensional character. Most characters were pretty two-dimensional when I think back to it. This isn't a Marvel movie, not everyone has to be portrayed as villains or heroes.

    Now, I know I've just spent two paragraphs complaining about the negatives of the movie but I actually really liked it. I wouldn't say this movie is problematic, I can only say that there were small things that annoyed me as with every movie and if you bare with me, I'll get to the positives which make up for the negatives. The cinematography was nice, the whole idea of making a movie about Enola was nice and there were multiple actresses that I liked in it. Another thing I really liked was seeing Tewkesbury. I don't know who the kid who's playing Tewkesbury is but he's the most adorable, genuinely nice and emotional actor I've seen in a while and that says a lot. Whenever he looked at Enola I just melted a little. His little teardrop at the end, his genuine love for the girl, all of it made the movie for me. There's just something about seeing nice guys being in love that makes my day better. Every emotion he had was valid and encouraged (We have to protect Tewkesbury at all cost).

    In conclusion, I loved the relationship between Tewkesbury and Enola and you could even just watch it for that. The plot, the cinematography and everything was quite nice. I realised I haven't mentioned Helena Bonham Carter's performance, which was good of course, but I have the same problem I have with Millie Bobby Brown. I always imagine her a bit like her character in Harry Potter which makes things a little creepy if I'm being honest. I loved Fiona Shaw's performance, I have always loved her performances, especially in Killing Eve. To briefly touch upon the negative things I said about Enola's character, you don't have to isolate the character from other females to make her better than them, you don't have to constantly mention she doesn't know how to do embroidery for her to be original. To me, knowing how to do embroidery is as original as knowing how to fight when it's cleverly written. I wish these character traits were treated more casually that I could relate more to Enola.

P.S: Don't mind all the negative things I'm saying, I liked this movie, I really did, I just usually rant a lot about these things :D

Little Women

Little women (2019)

    This movie is the 2019 adaptation of the book 'Little Women' by Louisa May Alcott. In the opening scene, we see a quote by the writer herself that indicates she has had a gloomy life and 'Little Women' in a way is her way of escaping that reality. It is evident in the movie that happiness is the desired element in everyone's lives and that is exactly what's delivered to us. The main character Jo March is a writer and she lives in a colourful household with the rest of her siblings and her mother. They are all striking girls at a time where girls are only meant to marry well and otherwise they're considered foolish. The movie revolves around the girls' lives, ambitions, struggles and how they're perceived by men and other women while emphasising their uniqueness. It is about how women are strong, interesting, striking beings and they can accomplish things, be strong and love, not when they have to, but when they really do.

    Personal Thoughts: This movie was something special, hence my decision to come back to actually putting a bit of effort into this blog. It inspired me to wake up and write something about it which is a hard thing to do for me these days. I do love feminism as a theme and came across many different ways of approaching the topic. Little Women does this in a very cosy and lovely way that shows how sisters have a special bond and how each of them has ambitions that are considered unrealistic by others but supported by each other. I personally loved the fact that the girls had a world of their own and it attracted others without even trying which is shown in the scenes where Laurie, his tutor and his grandfather often look at the girls admiringly when they're being all lively and care-free. Another thing I would like to touch upon is how love is approached in the movie which was very real in a way. I was one of the people who expected (and really wanted) Laurie and Jo to end up together because their friendship was something special and it was evident how he cared about her and even though it wasn't too clear if she cared about him in the same way, I guess I hoped she would. I think this is how most people feel about these two characters perhaps because it is portrayed so well how Laurie is in love / heartbroken but all these aside, it is also admirable how he gets over it as well. However, if we look into the scenes, it's all about friendship and it is still something admirable to have, maybe even more admirable than romantic love which does fit the theme of the movie. On a side note, even though I liked the movie a lot, I did feel like it was a bit out of the blue when Jo was suddenly into Friedrich and Laurie was into Amy which only feels like an attempt to make a happy ending for all. It is realistic in a way though so I'm not too against it either. It's just that sometimes the book might explain it all whereas since the movie is a compressed version of the book some events have to be shown rather shortly so as a viewer we don't prefer how some things end up being and these two relationships were one of those things in the movie for me. Overall, it's realistic, heartwarming, funny and Timothée Chalamet looks super good so it gets a 9/10 from me.

Update: I read the book and it barely mentions any romance so the movie took a few liberties in that sense

P.S: I feel like Timothée Chalamet is made to be the soft boy in love in every movie with slight alterations in the character but he just does it so well that I don't even care. Also not to be a complete fangirl here but the scene where they were in a meadow was just so good I get how it's nominated for best picture (I'm putting it below)

The movie takes place in the countryside of Germany. It starts by introducing the characters through Phil's point of view. Phil has a routine in his life which includes his mom, sister and best friend Kat. His routine is broken when he returns from the language camp. He finds his mom and sister not speaking to each other for a reason and he falls for a new guy. It's about the complications of relationships and the non-ideal bonds that people form.

Personal Thoughts: The movie was great even if it was about a clishé subject like relationships. The characterisations were really interesting and detailed especially of Glass and Kat. I just really like that his mother's name was Glass which somehow suited her fragile character. It was sort of mysterious what had caused for the relationship of his mother and sister to fall apart and even though his sister had done something horrible, the storytelling of the scene was authentic. I thought the parts where Phil was telling about his childhood were one of the most fascinating parts of the movie. Also, most of the movies are about how people fall in love and everything in their lives become perfect but the fact that all the relationships in this movie were imperfect was what made it undeniably realistic. I think the atmosphere and how people and events were so integrated with nature were also pretty interesting. For example, when Phil first arrived, he found out that a storm had wrecked the whole town just before he realised nothing is perfect anymore in his household which does bring a metaphorical meaning to the storm itself. I also enjoyed the fact that his sister was able to connect to animals which made everything even more supernatural yet not even a bit unrealistic. Similarly, the problem between his mother and his sister was connected to nature. I later on realised that nature symbolised problematic events in their lives. One more thing to add is that Germany was a pretty setting for the scenes since everything was so green and almost disconnected from the rest of the world. Overall, I really liked the symbolism and characterisations in the movie which definitely makes it worth watching.

Oroi (Jitters)

Oroi (Jitters): 2010

The movie takes place in Iceland, even though it starts from the summer camp experience Markus and Gabriel had together in England. It's mostly about the problems that teens have such as neglection, restriction, falling in love with the wrong person, sexuality confusion etc. It revolves around how Markus and Gabriel fall for each other while also touching upon other characters' lives and problems. The cover, name and trailer make it seem like it's all about Markus and Gabriel but I'd say it's equally about every other character and theme.

Personal Thoughts: First of all, it was a truly flawed movie so watch it at your own risk. It was also kind of hard to find a version with English subtitles so good luck with that. It starts off with Gabriel and Markus's meeting in a summer camp in England. It's understandable for Gabriel to go to a summer camp but Markus's character is nothing like the type that'd study for summer, and he doesn't anyway. The first thing that came to my mind was "Why the hell is he there? It doesn't look like his parents would force him into it either knowing that they're not even once mentioned and he can quit studying just like that without anyone stopping him" Second thing that came to my mind was how random their kiss was. There have been scenes that they were hanging out together, okay, but that doesn't mean they have chemistry or anything. I think they tried to create a love-hate relationship for them but it backfired since even their hate wasn't that passionate. The movie was sort of all over the place in terms of the plot and the characters. The story isn't entirely about Gabriel and Markus's relationship so why the hell did they make it seem that way? It was equally about Stella's family problems, attraction to her gay best friend and suicidal tendencies (which was far more realistic to be honest.) and Greta's search for his father. I felt like they tried to squish a lot of themes together while abandoning each one at a weird point. It was realistic though, I have to agree on that. Also, there was something so dark about the way it was filmed.  If I haven't watched thousands of movies like this, I'd say it was even impressive at some points (definitely not the Markus-Gabriel relationship though) Like Markus went out of his way to go to an expensive summer camp to do nothing and then ended up leaving school and being a hairdresser? I'm still confused about that. Anyway, I think it has a few good points mostly related to Stella's life (and death). Also how her grandmother was so protective on her while crossing the line so much might be something relatable. Her death was dark and it was out of the blue which is how death is sort of like I guess but I would've expected a better performance from Gabriel since he was supposed to be her best friend. I swear the boy doesn't have emotions which is not something you expect from a supposedly lead character who has to be in multiple complicated relationships. The good part of the movie was that it had a different way of portraying things than accustomed which perhaps is because I personally haven't seen many (if any at all) Icelandic movies. It's an okay movie to watch if you're into slightly dark teenage dramas not to mention the two main characters are kinda cute. However, you've been warned...

To the Bone: 2017

Cast: Lily Collins (as Ellen), Keanu Reeves (as Dr. Beckham), Alex Sharp (as Luke)

To the Bone is about teens who have anorexia nervosa, bulimia and similar eating disorders. Ellen, who is anorexic, is an aspiring artist with a depressive attitude caused by her eating disorder and self image. Her family is separated and has different opinions on her behaviour while no one seems to really listen to what she has to say. We often see Ellen as sarcastic and aggressive. The movie shows the smallest of sparks she has when she meets Luke and how her behaviour changes according to the events in her life. It focuses on the disorder itself  with the slightest hint of dark humour.

Personal Thoughts: It's sort of educative and enlightening and it grabs the attention of teens since it is essentially a teen drama. There were contradictions between people saying that it romanticises the disorder. The thing is, it doesn't really romanticise the disorder itself, at least I didn't feel that way but I can definitely see where those comments are coming from. Lily Collins looked really pretty in the movie and her outfits and character was really impressive. Her character and the way she dresses seem to be all connected with her inner suffering which is caused by anorexia. We often see that she reflects her thoughts to her art. Of course teen girls will find themselves admiring her. But luckily, the movie includes some graphic, realistic images of anorexia. Overall, I liked the movie because it talks about taboo topics that most parents are scared to talk to their kids about. It sort of reminds me of 'the Road Within' which focuses on Tourettes. As a person who has Tourettes, I thought the movie was pretty realistic and reflective. The thing with these kinds of movies is that they focus on children's relationships with parents which is a good point to start off to understand the disorders themselves. I recommend you to watch it, although it's not really something to watch on a girls night or when you're looking for something entertaining.

Palo Alto

Palo Alto: 2013

Palo Alto is a movie about teenage life and choices and where they lead people. It's different than most of the teen movies I watched because it's dark and sad and there's no comedy in it. It just puts out the solid truth of how actions and consequences are tied together. The actions of the characters in Palo Alto represent the confusion of the age and none of them end with happiness unlike what they expected.

Personal Thoughts: First of all, this movie is like Cherrybomb's American version but there aren't that much of partying scenes unlike Cherrybomb. It just reveals the whole truth of teenage years without any judgement. I must say, I didn't quite like the movie but the scenes were visually pleasing just like in Cherrybomb. The outfits of the characters -especially Emma Roberts' famous yellow sweater- were well chosen. I personally value the outfits in the movies. I also think that the atmosphere of the movie, the in-between state, is what we feel most of the time (at least I) so it's perfectly realistic. Maybe that's why I can't say I like it completely because movies are thought to be exceptional life stories which we watch to get out of our boring personal lives. Palo Alto, with its slow story development, wrong choices, hidden emotions, is our lives (mostly teenagers of course). I think if you think enough, you can find bits and pieces of yourself in every character. That's why I'm glad I watched it.

Dirty Dancing starts off by presenting the whole scene of a summer vacation place for mostly families. Baby, (that's strangely what they call Frances) comes to the vacation centre with her family and coincidentally gets to see the "behind the scenes" part of the organisation and how the workers are treated there. They are obligated to entertain no matter what and money surely is an important factor on that. Other than entertaining for money, they dance in a place secretly. This kind of dance is called dirty dancing which is not the kind of dance they would want their guests to see. One day when one for the workers gets pregnant and can't dance or pay the money for the abortion, Baby helps her with both. She pays the money and she learns how to dance for her shows by the help of Johnny Castle. Even if they're from completely different social groups, they fall in love. It's about breaking the labels that the society put on us.

Personal Thoughts: I liked the whole thing but to be honest, I liked the dances more. They were absolutely awesome and it was hard not to get jealous of their skills. Even if you don't like the movie which I'm pretty sure you will, the dances are so good that it'll make up for it. Plus it's a classic and who doesn't love classics? (cough me cough) I don't actually enjoy a lot of classics for example the horrible Anna Karenina. I liked the cast and I thought I'd like it because it was a classic and all but I sometimes, well, most of the times, have a hard time liking the classics. Any way I liked this one so I think even for spending your free time it's a good choice to just go for it and watch it.

Zootopia

Zootopia: 2016

It's a comedy animation movie. The story is about a bunny wanting to be a cop in the future but the society she lives in stereotypes her and expect her to be a farmer like all the other bunnies. The place called Zootopia is known to be the city of freedom where everyone can be anything so she becomes a cop unlike what everyone else thought. When she starts working in Zootopia, still nobody believes in her so they give her easy jobs. While she's on duty, trying to solve a missing animal case to prove herself to everyone, she meets Nick, a fox, and threatens him to cooperate with her to solve the case. While they're investigating, they start to become good friends unlike what society expects.

Personal Thoughts: It was one of the best animations I've watched lately. I used to like Bolt and Little Red Riding Hood a lot but now I like Zootopia too. It was really sweet and funny. I watched it with my friends so we laughed every few seconds. (the sloth scene was the best). Nick's the coolest fox ever. It was genuinely really cute and funny. Also, the ending is totally shocking, I think it's definitely a movie you should watch if you're looking for a cute, funny animation.

Becoming Jane

It's a biographical movie about the writer Jane Austen's life. Many of the people didn't believe she could be a writer because of the society's structure in those times and the strict moral rules which were even more clear in the countryside. Jane is stubborn, passionate, scenical and confident. She is confident and brave. She doesn't care about money or men around her unlike the other women. She meets Tom Lerfroy who also happens to be as stubborn and as passionate as her. Their interests differ but they're both strong characters which causes for them to hate each other even before they meet each other. One thing they're strictly different about is morality. Tom, is considered immoral compared to the other people around him. He's careless, wild and as Jane Austen says once, dangerous. But he has an advantage: experience which is something Jane lacks of. They complete each other in a way that no other can understand. No money or status can change. They fall in love not in an easy way. Neither of them has money to live. They have belief in their love but it doesn't last long. The reality hits them and that's how their love dies. It practically never dies (Tom gets married to someone else and calls her first daughter Jane and Jane never gets married.)

Personal Thoughts: It is one of my favourite movies. Anne Hathaway and Tom Leroy was absolutely great. I was in love with them. I was basically fan-girly through the whole movie. It was just perfect. The first scene Tom Leroy was in was really cool I think. They really introduced his character well. I'm glad they chose James McAvoy for the character because he's really cool and handsome and I kinda have a crush on him since X Men. He was the arrogant bad boy of the old times. Their love slowly forms and at first it's kind of invisible but they surely have an attraction. Jane looks for him in everywhere which was one of the best scenes. (after the cricket scene where she kicks Tom's ass) I loved it when Tom suddenly appeared in the dance. I can't really say more than I love the movie. I also watched Pride and Prejudice (which is one of Jane Austen's books) but I liked Becoming Jane more. Maybe it's because of the characters or the events. In Pride and Prejudice, they didn't like each other at first too but in Becoming Jane every emotion was clearly visible. Also I found it really amusing Tom appearing when Jane was gossiping about him. It actually shows how much she cares about him. Like I said, it's one of the movies that really gives the feeling. I made literally everyone around me watch it and no one ever disliked it so I suggest you to watch it too (if you enjoy romance)

Evan doesn't have any family. At least he doesn't know them. But he is eager to find them. He runs away from the orphanage to find his family in the city. He follows the sounds and the musici inside his soul. He first finds himself at a church. Then, he finds himself with a thief. The thief literally captures him. He gives him the name August. His last stop happens to be a music academy. He's naturally talented so he doesn't have a hard time to fit in. Maxwell, the thief, tries to sabotage his future in the academy. Still, he doesn't give up from music and wites a song including the whole orchestra. His mom and dad hears the music and in the end, they all see each other like he imagined.

Personal Thoughts: I love Freddie Highmore since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He looks really sensitive in a way and I get really emotional when he acts. The Art of Getting by is a really great movie too. Also, now he's on Bates Motel which is a TV series inspired by the movie Psycho. I think he's really great there. you can clearly see his psychopath self :p Enough about other movies. The reason why I liked this movie was because it is really emotional. I first cried in the beginning when he was in the orphanage. I was twelve years old when I watched it maybe that's the reason I cried, I don't know. If you like music, this movie's theme is all about music. There were sad parts when he was living with Maxwell, those parts reminded me of Oliver Twist for some reason. It's also about the confusing, complicated and most of the time, evil city life. I feel myself drifting most of the time since I live in a big city. In this movie, I can clearly relate to that. The ending seemed a bit fictional but that's okay because it was a good movie.

The movie is about the life of a group of teenagers. The flow of the movie is a bit slow. There are a lot of party scenes. These three teenagers, Malachy, Luke and Michelle, don't really know what to do with their lives. They're all living lives they don't want. All of them have different problems. When Luke and Malachy met Michelle they both liked her and this became a bigger problem at the end of the movie. It affected their friendship. Personal Thoughts: The movie kind of reminded me of "Palo Alto" These movies are not so much entertaining but you still like to watch them. At least I do. After all, I still liked it. The soundtracks and the scenes were good. I liked the random party scenes. Also, Robert Sheehan was great as always. He suits the free, crazy teenager characters. I thought his character Luke was so much like his character Nathan in "Misfits". I was a bit excited to see Rupert Grint but I didn't really like his character Malachy. I don't think Kimberley Nixon was the best choice for the bad girl. She looks and dresses like a good girl. Being bad doesn't look good on her. I wish it was someone like Kaya Scodelario. (Can you tell I like Skins?) In the end, the message was good but I wish they had focused on the friendship more than their relationship with Michelle. They practically drifted apart the moment they saw her. In some scenes, Luke said Michelle was separating them but Malachy was ready to leave Luke alone to go after a girl he doesn't even know. In the last scene, Luke said Malachy would do the same for him but I didn't really believe it. That's the main reason I didn't like Malachy I guess. I also didn't like that two cool guys were trying to prove themselves to a girl that isn't even worth it. But I guess that's close to reality in some cases, although I never had two guys fighting over me. The accents were a bit hard to understand since my first language is not English and I like to watch movies without subtitles. Unlike what everyone says, I'm glad I watched it. I don't show it much but I liked it. It's the kind of movie to watch when it's raining outside. I think it's because the UK always reminds me of rainy weather and the scenes were dark since the kids were partying all night.

Tyler is a university student. His brother committed suicide at his age and that affected him deeply. He always thought about him and that made him a bit depressed. He got arrested once and was very angry with the cop that arrested him. He made a plan and started dating his daughter to hurt him but as he kept spending time with her, he fell in love with her. A lot of things happened in his life but he never forgot about his brother. When everything went wrong, he committed suicide at the same age as his brother.

Personal Thoughts: It was a sad movie so don't watch it if you're looking for something light and fun. I liked Tyler. He's an emotional character. Robert Pattinson fits the character in that way. Tyler is sensitive, caring, and very obviously sad. His family pressures him so much that he ends up committing suicide. My favourite thing in the movie was how he cared about his sister. When bullies in the school ruined her hair, he came to school with her to make sure no one says anything to her. I really liked the movie because it gives you this sad feeling but not the sad that'll make you cry. Melancholy is the right word for it I guess.

The movie is basically is about making the small moments of life better. Ben has some kind of superpower. He can slow down the time or stop it entirely. It helps him see the beauty in some moments. He is an artist so he always finds a way to see the beauty in everything, even in small particles of dust floating in the air. It all starts when he was young. As a kid, he adored the female body so he started drawing it. Later on, he has a girlfriend named Suzie. He was in love with her when she breaks up with him. He feels sad and doesn't know what to do without her, so a bit randomly, he signs up for a job at a supermarket. He meets a girl there and notices the beauty in every move of her. Overall, it is about realising the beauty that you won't notice normally.

Personal Thoughts: I would've loved to be able to do what Ben can do because some moments really need to be looked at closely. For example, the moment you have everything and you're simply happy is a moment Ben considers. After I watched this movie, I've been trying to memorise the moments I was happy and it works. It made me a lot more positive than I used to be. Remembering the beauty in things makes it infinite, and I think this is what Ben does throughout the movie. Ben is an emotional character. He's shy and a little bit quiet. I really like that he can find something beautiful in everything. For example, when he was a child, he thought the girl with the hairy arm was beautiful. He didn't think she was disgusting. Also when Suzie was in bed with him, he even realised the beauty of the dust that became visible with light. I like how artists' minds work. Shannon said the same thing to Ben too. That's why I like her character, she's sweet. I think she's very beautiful. The ending of the movie was a bit cliché, but still, I liked it. I liked the bit where Shannon got to see how he sees her. It was really beautiful.

First of all it's not a regular cancer movie. It's positive through the beginning to the end. Greg doesn't belong to a group because he's afraid that he won't be loved so he doesn't attach to anyone besides Earl. Later on, her mother insists on him talking to the dying girl across the street. That's how they met. It was awkward in the first few hours because they were just hanging out because she was dying but then, with the help of some pillows, they started to become so much more than just awkward strangers to each other. It's not certain if Greg likes him different then friendship or not so you're free to think what you like. Greg's one passion is to make movies with Earl. Rachel wants to watch all of them before she dies. There's no hint that if she's going to die though. you should find out yourself. (Ps: don't read my personal thoughts before you watch. I tend to give soo much spoilers)

Personal Thoughts: One of the sweetest movies I've ever watched. One of my friend recommended it and I first thought It would be another version of "the fault in our stars". Not that I hated that movie. It just became so ordinary and I don't like looking at illnesses as "ordinary". So I don't usually watch those kinds of movies. Luckily I liked the movie so much. Firs of all, Greg's inner thoughts are so much  relatable. He's always scared to get hurt and not be loved. He always underrates himself. Rachel doesn't like that. About their relationship, they're the cutest friends ever. If they were a couple, I wouldn't feel the same way about them. Their relationship is so pure, innocent and loving. They're both different. I call these people "detailist". It basically means, they like details and the small stuff they notice makes them happy. For example, Graig's passion for making movies. I especially noticed it in the movie he made for Rachel. He added so much little details in it and they just looked beautiful as a whole. He also didn't  miss to add the pillows into it. See, detailist people don't forget those details even in conversations and they become something beautiful and big eventually. I liked the Earl character. Earl is just so cool and funny. He hangs out with Rachel and Greg and they all fit each other so much. Another character I loved was Graig's father. He has a funny personality. he resembles so much of my own father. They both like to talk about random philosophical stuff out of no where. I generally like those kinds of people. Lastly, Rachel. She's cute, cool and sad on the inside. She hides her fear of death till the last minute. It was great that she was such a good friend to Graig. In the last scene, there's an interesting message. You never completely know someone. You keep getting to know them even after they're dead. For example he didn't know Rachel liked to cut the books and make shapes out of them. Rachel was so much more actually. She drew squirrels all around her room. They were like a hint to follow. It was really interesting. Another scene I really liked was when Earl, Rachel and Graig were hanging out, eating ice cream on the stairs of somewhere. It was a simple scene but they were all happy. Rachel remembered that small moment they lived and made that moment by cutting the inside of a book. I like how it carries an importance to her. Not any moment but that one. The message of the movie was about friendship. The last thing that Rachel did was to apply collage for Graig. She wrote a recommendation letter for him before she died and it was really sweet.

Craig is a student in a respected school. He has good friends and a bright way to future but he's not happy from the inside. His parents push him to a future he doesn't want and he' in love with his best friend's girlfriend. He doesn't have anybody to talk to so he feels depressed and checks himself to a hospital. He meets new people like Noelle and Bobby. They make him feel better day by day. In the end, he feels comfort and sanity.

Personal Thoughts: The role fitted Emma Roberts so much. She always has this different impression that fits into certain kids of roles. Craig's illness is a common problem of today's teenagers. It's actually not being suicidal. It's just not knowing what you want in life and no one guiding you. Noelle was good for him even if she didn't seem normal compared to other people. I liked the game that they've played when they met each other. It was not like the boring, regular kind of meeting. I think the message was you don't have to be like other people to be considered normal. I liked it. I promise, you won't be bored.

Kenneth is not a regular guy. He believes in time travel and he looks for a company. Everyone thinks he's crazy. Darius is an intern in a magazine and takes the job as the time traveller's company. Their aim is to go back to 2001 for some reasons. Darius wants to go back to the day when her mother died and fix it but doesn't really believes time travelling. She just takes the job for the internship but day by day she feels more connected to Kenneth. Kenneth wants to go back because he wants to save his girlfriend form dying. The journey was nothing they've expected.

Personal Thoughts: It was really sweet. Besides, it makes you imagine which is good. In one scene Kenneth said he was looking for some kind of innocent pureness in the world. That's why he posted that add. I really liked that he believed in the world and wanted someone to believe in him. Darius was a perfect fit to him. They were both adventurous, different and sweet in a unique way. They perfectly fitted each other. Kenneth looked like a weird person from the outside but on the inside he's the guy that writes songs to the girl he loves, learns writing codes, leaves notes to himself form the past. Darius sees this unique part of him which everyone considers "not normal". Kenneth tells Darius that his girlfriend's house was hit by a car but actually he hit her boyfriend's house with his car. He's not delusional. He just wishes things happened in a different way. For example, in one scene he said "I wish I could stop the jerks that hit her". I think he feels regret and considers himself as a jerk. The reason why he said the girl was dead is because for him, after that day she was no different than a dead person for him. He never got to see her again. He wants to erase that feeling and start over until he met Darius. Everything changed for both of them. In the end, even if nobody believed in Kenneth, he invented the time machine and they traveled back in time together.

Love Rosie is about the friendship of two best friends. They like each other since day one but none of them tells the other anything. They go to prom with different people, get married to different people... But in their hearts, they always have each other even if they don't know. It's the really sweet story of the lives of those two person.


Personal Thoughts: I watched the movie twice. One for the first time and other because I was bored and it's a really good movie. I can guarantee you, you won't get bored. Lily Colins has the ultimate eyebrows and she's really cute in this one. I loved their British accents. The story was beautiful from the beginning to the end. It's a common thing that happens in a lot of teenager's life. That's why it's so relatable. My favourite scene was where Alex wrote Rosie a letter about his feelings about her and Rosie seeing it later, realising everything. She was so hopeful but then she saw Bethany in his apartment and heard they were getting married. It pretty much explained the whole situation. There's always something on their way. But it's the thing that makes the story interesting. I liked that the movie starts from where they were children and ends when they were adults. Over the period of their life, their ways separate constantly but still, they never leave each other. After watching it, I wished to have a friendship like their's. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The movie is about the relationship of two people who work in a circus. Even if the circumstances are bad and their situation is not available for them to fall in love, the do anyway. Jacob is a medical school drop out so he works as an animal doctor and Marlena is the wife of the manager. She does tricks with animals. Jacob's patience with animals and her husband's  cruelty against them makes her consider her feelings about both of them.

Personal Thoughts: The scenes with animals were nice. Reese Witherspoon was so beautiful. Apart form that, they really looked like they were in love. I don't have much to say about this one because the movie was not complicating. If you like romantic movies, this one's definitely your type. It was a really sweet story.

George is an anti-social kid who lives his life quietly and unnoticed. One significant quality of him is that he never does homework. The movie is based on how he made one friend and fall in love with her.

Personal thoughts: My opinion about George is rather positive. Maybe the reason is because he has some deep thoughts and those thoughts makes him unique. He's an artist and has deep feelings about simple stuff. That's why I like him so much. He makes ordinary stuff extraordinary with his feelings. For example his love for Sally. Sally isn't anything like George. She's just friendly but George finds Sally so beautiful and that makes an ordinary girl extraordinary. I think George is a genius. Even if he sketches on his books whole lesson he can be successful when he wants. I found his shyness cute. My favourite scene of the movie is when the teacher thought George had no idea of a book that was assigned and George proved her wrong. Everyone was surprised and it was kinda cool:) I liked George's answer because his sense of romanticism is different from everyone else's. He finds the story being told by the perspective of a bug romantic. That shows how his mind works different. It's a teenage movie. The events were a bit slow but apart from that, it's a nice movie.
