Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events: 2004 IMDB: 4.2/5 Cast: Jim Crrey (as Kont Olaf), Liam Aiken (as Klaus), Emily Browning (as Violet), Jude Law (Lemony Snicket) The novels of Lemony Snicket's are transferred into a movie. The movie is about three siblings going through some extraordinary stuff after their parents' death. They find themselves a new house every time but there's always someone following them and ruining their lives to get their parents' money. It's the story of the things they go through together and finding interesting ways to get away. Personal Thoughts: It was my favourite movie when I was a child. At first I was scared of it because of the moody atmosphere and the weirdness of Kont Olaf I guess but after that I found the dark, moody atmosphere beautiful. The beginning of the movie was as if it was deliberately made to make the audience confused. I guess that was the happiest scene in the whole movie. Too innocent to actually be in this movie. It was nice that they've described the characters. All three of the children has unique qualities of their own and it wouldn't be the same if they didn't introduce the characters just as it is in the books. Jim Carrey was perfect and I think the movie deserved a better point. The settings were well made. They were as moody as the characters. I guess the film makers wanted the place to match with the characters' psychology after their parents died. I loved the falling house setting because of the view and how well it described the character of Aunt Josephine. I liked that they've used a specific drawing such as an eye to symbolise the death of their parents. There were lots of interesting scenes such as Kont Olaf's weird actor friends coming over to their house, children making a tent to stay inside even if they were inside a house, Aunt Josephine being kidnapped, Violet and Kont Olaf getting married in a play but actually getting married etc. I found it interesting that the children had so much creative solutions to save themselves. It's a really great movie which everyone should watch sometime. quotes
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: 2004 IMDB: 8.4 Cast: Jim Carrey (as Joel), Kate Winslet (as Clementine) The movie starts with the first time Clementine and Joel meets. Then what happened seems blurry in Joel's mind. They fight and the next day, Joel goes to the store where Clementine works. Clementine doesn't recognise him. Soon he finds out she had a procedure (something like lobotomy that only makes her forget the memories about him) and he decides to forget too. While they're erasing his memories he realizes he doesn't want to forget and tries to save the memories but he can't make it happen. In the end, they meet again without their memories. Personal Thoughts: It was wonderful. I've just finished watching the movie and it's one of the best movies I've seen lately. Clementine has this interesting personality, she's energetic, unordinary, sometimes mean but without being aware of it. Joel is the complete opposite of Clementine. He tries to be nice to people, he's shy, I think he has deep thoughts, unlike Clementine. She says everything out loud and that's what makes her an open book. I relate some things to myself from both of them. Even if they have opposite personalities, they fit each other. The idea of them finding each other again even after they've erased their memories was a pretty cool idea. I really liked the ending of the movie. It was sweet, weird (in a good way), complicating and great. I hope you guys will like it too. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338013/quotes
Truman Show: 1998 IMDB: 8.1 Cast: Jim Carrey (as Truman), Ed Harris (as Christof), Laura Linney (as Meryl Burbank and Hannah Gill) Truman is a regular guy who goes to wark everyday, comes home from work, talks with his neighbours and lives an organised life. Maybe too organised. At college he has a crush on a girl. The girl says she can't talk to him because of some reasons. Later we discover the reason is because she doesn't want to be one of the peope that fools him everyday. She tells Truman that he lives in a made up world and nothing he sees is real, it's just a reality TV show which he's the main character in. He starts to think about it. He recognizes the exact pattern of his life, like the same order of people passsing the street everyday and how he can never get out of the town. It's the story of how he tries to get out to discover and see the reaity outside. Personal Thoughts: It's a great movie. I really like Jim Carrey and almost watched all of his movies. I first watced the move in a TOK (theory of knowledge) class. It made me question the things as we define as "facts" are really the truth or how do we actually know what truth is. The answer is we cannot possibly know it. We can just assume or choose to believe the things we have most evidence of are the truth. The movie is about how Truman discoveres his own truth. After I watced the move I got a strange feeling. I get that feeling in most of Jim Carrey's movies like Eternal Sushine of the Spotless Mind, Yes Man etc. It's just a great move, I think everyone should watch it sometime. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120382/quotes
