Truman Show

Truman Show: 1998

IMDB: 8.1

Cast: Jim Carrey (as Truman), Ed Harris (as Christof), Laura Linney (as Meryl Burbank and Hannah Gill)

Truman is a regular guy who goes to wark everyday, comes home from work, talks with his neighbours and lives an organised life. Maybe too organised. At college he has a crush on a girl. The girl says she can't talk to him because of some reasons. Later we discover the reason is because she doesn't want to be one of the peope that fools him everyday. She tells Truman that he lives in a made up world and nothing he sees is real, it's just a reality TV show which he's the main character in. He starts to think about it. He recognizes the exact pattern of his life, like the same order of people passsing the street everyday and how he can never get out of the town. It's the story of how he tries to get out to discover and see the reaity outside.

Personal Thoughts: It's a great movie. I really like Jim Carrey and almost watched all of his movies. I first watced the move in a TOK (theory of knowledge) class. It made me question the things as we define as "facts" are really the truth or how do we actually know what truth is. The answer is we cannot possibly know it. We can just assume or choose to believe the things we have most evidence of are the truth. The movie is about how Truman discoveres his own truth. After I watced the move I got a strange feeling. I get that feeling in most of Jim Carrey's movies like Eternal Sushine of the Spotless Mind, Yes Man etc. It's just a great move, I think everyone should watch it sometime.
